Cursor alternatives
Cursor is a desktop AI code editor. On 12 October 2026 its pricing page switched to “The X Subscription”, bundled with Grok and X: Grok models are included, while third-party models such as Claude or GPT are now billed at their API list price. Here are the alternatives, whether you want another desktop editor, an agent inside the editor you already have, or to work from a browser.

Why look for an alternative to Cursor
- The pricing changed on 12 October 2026: plans now come bundled with Grok and X, and Claude or GPT models are billed at API list price on top.
- You want to keep the editor you already use (VS Code, JetBrains) and add an agent to it.
- You want open source, or your own model keys on a free plan.
- You want to work from a browser, or on a PC where you cannot install software.
When Cursor is still the better choice
- You live in a desktop editor all day, on local files, and Tab completion is part of how you work.
- Grok models suit you: they are included in the plan, with cloud agents and Bugbot code reviews from Premium.

Devin Desktop (ex-Windsurf)
Cognition · Desktop AI code editor

- Less suited if…
- You want to work from a browser: it is a desktop application.
Zed

- A good fit if…
- You want a fast, native, open-source editor and you bring your own keys.

- You want to work from a browser or a PC where you cannot install software.
An agent in your editor or terminal
Keep VS Code, JetBrains or your terminal, and add a coding agent. (Listed alphabetically)
Claude Code
Anthropic · Coding agent for the terminal and the IDE
- A good fit if…
- You are at ease in a terminal or your IDE and want a strong agent working on your own repository.
- Less suited if…
- You need a free plan, or a ready-made environment with preview and hosting for people who do not code.
Cline
Cline (open source) · Open-source coding agent (Apache 2.0)
- A good fit if…
- You want an agent inside VS Code or JetBrains, with any model, paying only for what you use.
- Less suited if…
- You want a predictable monthly price: the cost follows your usage at your model provider.
GitHub Copilot
GitHub · AI assistant and agent for your editor
- A good fit if…
- You want to keep the editor you already use and add an agent at a low price; the cloud agent you assign work to starts with Pro.
- Less suited if…

In the browser
Nothing to install: your environment follows you from one computer to another. (Listed alphabetically)
GitHub Codespaces
GitHub · Cloud development environment
- A good fit if…
- Your code is on GitHub and you want a full VS Code with a Linux terminal, in the browser.
- Less suited if…
- You want an AI agent built in: Codespaces is the environment, the agent is a separate product.
myide
Our productmyide · Browser IDE with an AI agent
- A good fit if…
- You want an editor, an isolated terminal, a live preview and publishing in one browser tab, on a new or existing project, with an agent that checks its result in the preview before it says it is done.
- Less suited if…
- You need managed production hosting or a managed database: apps with a server on apps.myide.tech are stopped after 6 hours, and a SQL database means connecting your own Supabase project.
